![]() | HMS Onslow My father, Bill Grier, served on HMS Onslow on the Russian Run under Capt Sherbrooke VC and under Capt McCoy gun spotting in the Gironne. Sadly my he died in 1976 so this being his 30th anniversary so to speak I'm trying collect as much information as I can about her and what she did. I've attached a photo for anyone who might recognise anyone. My father is second right as you look. If anyone can offer stories, anecdoctes or general information please post and I will be indebted. |

http://www.bbc.co.uk/ww2peopleswar/s...a5350880.shtml and there's info on: http://uboat.net/allies/warships/ship/4482.html I assume you know how the VC was won. If not, the description of the Battle of the Barents Sea can be found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Barents_Sea And this card was being sold on ebay and managed to "acquire" a picture of it:

![]() | Kin 47, can I ask how you came by this information? I believe access to her ship's log is possible but I have to go to Greenwich I think. She seems to have been very busy, doing everything from the Russian Run, to gun spotting on the Gironne and she was at the Normandy landings on D-Day |

![]() | Hello Sadly, her log was disposed of, along with almost all other WW II destroyer logs many years ago. My movement tables and extracts were taken from an Admiralty movement book taken from sailing telegrams. Also, I have a number of War Diaries from Home Fleet, etc, etc, etc. If I can be of help, please let me know. All best don

![]() | Rear Admiral Sherbrooke is buried in Notts. There are two roads named after his family and a local primary school. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg...&GRid=13763579 |
