Only just seen this thread - so, is the Tiger steered by a steering wheel then? I thought tanks were steered by side levers that braked the tracks seperately? Which system was/is the norm, in WW2 and today?

Levers would be the usual method of steering. Various differential and braking mechanisms could be linked up to these. The Tiger is not unique in using a wheel, some British light tanks (Tetrarch and it's big brother Harry Hopkins) also used a steering wheel.
