"You were given the choice between war and dishonor.
You chose dishonor and you will have war."

(Winston Churchill made this prophetic pronouncement in a House of Commons speech in 1938, just after Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain signed the Munich agreement with Hitler. Chamberlain returned from Germany with the signed agreement in hand, proclaiming that "peace in our time" had been achieved. Churchill attacked Chamberlain's "politics of appeasement" in this and many other speeches.)

Re: Identifying Army matériel

Stubby one on the left is a Czech vz/27 (or 22???).
The Model 08ish one on the right is in fact an L35 or 'Lahti' from Finland.
(Cheers to the sadly departed but still, hopefully, reliable Mr Ian Hogg for the answers. )

Re. Gammon Bomb, sadly not live, as for 'did I buy it?' While I appreciate the sheer rarity factor of such a thing 3/4 of a grand for a small cloth bag with a bakelite screw-top did not induce me to reach for the plastic card.

By the way, Very nice pistols, more from your collection I assume JT?
Cheers,
adam.

Smile Re: Identifying Army matériel

Close enough.

The Czech pistol is a vz24, caliber .380 Auto (9mm Short) made in 1928 with two unit stamps on the front gripstrap. The first is 16th Infantry Regiment, lined out; the second is 4th Mountain Infantry. The holster is dated 1937.

The L-35 is much rarer - difficult to find here - mfd. about 1944. It's the first example of the Type III, SN 4701. The Swedish version of the Lahti, the M40, is more plentiful.

Yes, they're from my collection.

Obscure pistols off the top of my head are not a strong-point, my motto: "If it's small-arms, ask the Hogg books"

Re: Identifying Army matériel

Well done that man.
That looks like it'd stop any number of tanks and battallions of hardened stormtroopers doesn't it.
Desperate times.

My grandad was Home Guard. Had to sit on top of a gasometer. Then joined RAF dog service.
Right what's this?
