![]() ![]() ![]() | Just remembered this favourite shot of some Poles and their shiny Panzer III's: ![]() Panzer II here: North African Training Panzer. and here: Lone Sentry: WWII Photos: Captured German Panzer II Light Tank, there's a few shots of captured 251's out there too, and of course 'Cuckoo' the Coldstream's Panther. Thinking about it I can only recall seeing Stugs and Panzer IV's serving the Western allies in postwar photos of Dutch mineclearing operations, complete with original crews... Anyone seen any pictures of, or got information on, captured Pz.IV's in a more 'active' role?

![]() | Those above plus lack of spare parts, or if available having to set up an entire new maintenance line for unfamiliar material with an iffy supply source ("Jones, go and capture some more spark plugs, please"). Besides, why bother when all you had to do was wait for the next boat crammed with Shermans to arrive in Alexandria? The Russians actually did all this in 1943 but then they had already captured hundreds of tanks and picked the Pz III for conversion to SU-76i, a de-turreted PzIII with an angled steel box on top and a Russian 76 gun. This made sense considering the large amounts of running tanks captured plus the large logistic stockpiles captured for instance at Stalingrad and whatever else was abandoned in retreats.

![]() ![]() | Bergesherman Just come across a couple of pics of Sherman Beutepanzers. I'd not seen either before. I really like the Bergesherman.. the other one appears to have been captured by the Russians, it's third owners?

![]() ![]() ![]() | After noticing a picture of a StuH in American hands last night I was just reading on a wargamey website (that appears to be working from some sort of rangers war diary??) of 6 captured StuH 42's at Anzio used in an assault on Aprilia: 2nd Battalion Rangers (love the pic of the FJ wearing Tommy lids on there.) Anybody know any more? Or if this is pure fantasy? Cheers, Adam.

![]() | I just finished reading about the battle of Point 175 (Totensonntag), near Sidi Rezegh, during the Commonwealth offensive to relieve Tobruk in November ´41, and there were several cases in which captured Valentines were used by Jerry to reconnoiter and attack Kiwi and South African positions. Here´s the link to the full story: Point 175 | NZETC
