Villagers salute WWII hero pilot

BBC NEWS | Scotland | Tayside and Central | Villagers salute WWII hero pilot

Name: EVERISS, CARLYLE GRAY
Initials: C G
Nationality: New Zealand
Rank: Pilot Officer (Pilot)
Regiment/Service: Royal New Zealand Air Force
Age: 26
Date of Death: 02/10/1941
Service No: 41318
Additional information: Son of Frederick Everiss, and of Murielle Octavia Everiss (nee Gray), of Gisborne, Auckland, New Zealand; husband of Phyllis Elizabeth Everiss, of Te Kuiti, Auckland.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Sec. 1. Grave 19.
Cemetery: GRANGEMOUTH (GRANDSABLE) CEMETERY

Only problem is that of the squadrons who had used Grangemouth, only 602 Sq fit the bill, but they were at Kenley at the time.

Anybody know any other details?

Ahh, it's OK, I've found details:

58 OTU Roll

And from:

Carlyle Gray Everiss

Spifire 1a

"Aircraft on tail chase exercise and went out of control"

What's also interesting is that all the papers have been spelling his name as Carlisle instead of Carlyle.
