Peter - just so you know, I do appreciate you posting these obituaries, and if I don't reply to the posts its only because I can't think of anything original to say. Sadly the obituaries of WW2 figures are coming thick and fast now, and there's only so many ways you can say how sorry you are.

I do read the on-line Telegraph myself, but not till late in the evening, so you've usually posted the obits on this site by then.

In terms of WW1, as we pass the 90th anniversary of Passchendaele, there is just one British man left alive, 109 year-old Harry Patch, who actually served as an infantryman in the trenches. He nearly died 90 years ago, when three of his comrades were killed by a shell that wounded him.
