In one of his publications,I seem to remember, it appears he had some confusion with Hugh Trevor-Roper, the famous post war historian and Richard Trevor-Roper, Guy Gibson's rear gunner.

They must have been related as Hugh was later known as Lord Dacre while Dacre was one of Richard's middle names.
