![]() | Last of the flying legends -- RIP Polskie Radio dla zagranicy - Last of the flying legends Last of the flying legends 15.11.2007 General Tadeusz Andersz, the legend of the Polish Air Forces, died in his apartment in London, informs RZECZPOSPOLITA. Review by Aleks Kropiwnicki General Andersz was the last Polish hero of the Battle of Britain. After the German and Soviet invasion of Poland in 1939, Polish troops, including pilots, joined military forces of their Western allies: initially French and then British. Even though Tadeusz Andersz was a very young pilot, he managed to be named the head of two Royal Air Force squadrons, 306 and 315, before the end of the Second World War. He was one of the best Polish pilots and for his efficiency he was called The Flying Dutchman by his colleagues. They were referring to the fact that Andersz was born in the Netherlands. After the war the brave pilot couldn’t come back to Poland, occupied by the Communist regime. He decided to stay in London. However, after the collapse of Communism, free Poland showed that it hadn’t forgotten its hero, bestowing him with high orders and promoting him to the rank of General, writes RZECZPOSPOLITA.
