'Skipper' posted an Agence France-Presse report over on WW2f just now, including this quote:
Quote:
"If I had known it was Saint-Exupery I would never have shot him down," Horst Rippert, 88, told AFP, adding that the Frenchman had been one of his favourite authors.

The Little Prince is a mesmerising book, read it as a boy. Strangely I am currently reading another of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's slim volumes consisting of Southern Mail and Night Flight. The first book is his exploits for the French Air Mail service over the Sahara. Night Flight is set in the High Andes. Very poetic, even in translation. Published by Penguin Classics in paperback.
