the other served in 4th Wilts and was buried 84 miles away in Dieppe.

Can you think of a logical reason for this ? The only one that I can think of is that he was captured and whilst beng moved back through German lines died of his wounds . Both of their Surnames were Tompkins
I've looked at the war diary and can't find any reference to any 4th Bn men taken prisoner, sorry.
One day I'll buy "The Maroon Square" , maybe that may mention when he was taken POW.

I have already put my "Sword Beach Normandy 1944" flag on my car.
My heart and soul will be there. But thats all at present I am virtually chair bound.

I think of those mates Ginger Ford, Harry Grey, Jock Mathers, Sgt Rees, Gormless! And all the other lovely lads that took on Pegasus Though I have to say there was precious few others around at the time. dangerous place.

Normandy 2009

Good Day!

I have been to the beaches twice and will be there in 2009 for the 65th Anniversary, with my cousin. Is there a website or a place to contact regarding the events surrounding the 65th anniversary of D-Day?
Thanks!!!

Is anyone going to Holland this time of the year? I constantly recall the Market Garden offensive this time of the year. I remember young men that fought for what was right. I recall all those fine young men we left behind. Specially my Old Mate. Jock Mathers buried at Euvelwegan. I believe in what was then, the monastery grounds. Rest in peace mates, you lifted a dark medieval cloud of evil from Europe.
