EB,
Just looking at the German Cemetery photos again and notice there are no head stones, even ones that are laid on the ground.
Are there any at all?
Or are they all "Unknowns" ?

There are headstones that are laid flat on the ground. Almost 'inlaid' into the ground. My best guess is due to a lack of adequate maintenance. The headstones are laid at the foot of each walkway in the open grassy areas. for instance, in this picture...

...the graves are in the grass, two bodies across, with the head stones at each side of the walkway. I'll check my pictures when I get home this evening and see if I don't have a better photo of the headstones.

This picture from the WW2Museums.com Website shows the headstones....

...the White squares on the edge of the walkway are the grave markers.

Here are some close up shots I took of a few of those markers....

P.S. Owen I got your PM about the 'birds' but for some reason I am unable to send PM's. I guess its because I'm still a newbie. Anyway, I've got a story to post in that other thread and as soon as I find it in my mess of a library I will.
