![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Moscow cemeteries Will be visiting Moscow on a flying visit in a few weeks time and will probably only have time to do one or two things WW2 related while I'm there. If possible , I'd like to visit a WW2 Soviet cemetery. I presume that there would be one in Moscow, but can anyone tell me where the nearest (and largest or most visitable, if there are numerous) one is please? cheers, Dave

![]() | Get a copy of Three Days in Moscow by Vladimir Chernov. I have one but most of my books are stowed away while some work is being done one the house so I can't check it. I remember that there is quite a lot of info about cemeteries, some with propellers over pilots' graves. Apart from that, it is a wonderful guide to the city. although I have not been there yet. Abebooks.com have many copies available at cheap prices. It was published towards the end of the Soviet era. |

![]() | Sorry, Croonaert, I managed to find the book but it doesn't seem to have much about cemeteries, apart from the mass WW2 grave at Borodino. I mMust be confusing it with some other book! Having said that, I would still recommend it as a fascinating guide to the city. Wikipedia has some info if you search "Moscow cemeteries". |

![]() Been to all the European finals (and been to some interesting war-related sites whilst supporting them over the years - Warsaw, Volgograd, etc, ect - and it was drinking with a bunch of Red Star Belgrade fans after the European Super Cup final back in Oct(?) 1991 that convinced me to make a rather reckless though , thankfully, temporary career decision!) that they've been in - well, all bar one and I had a good excuse for missing the 1968 one - so I won't be missing this one! Why would I be a Burnley fan? I only live there, but am from an ardent Red background (my Gt grandad used to play for them and the family home was on the other side of the railway track from OT - all reds on my Mum's side (apart from her - she was a blue! )Dave

![]() | Try this page: Find A Grave - Novo-Devichy (Nowodjewchij) Cemetery Whilst not a military cemetary, the Russian partisan, Kosmodemyanskaya, Zoya Anatolyevna is buried there, and there a few Red Army graves. Krushchev and other Soviet party members are also buried there.

![]() | Probably easier to go to the Armed Forces Museum than cemeteries , it's worth going to see all the captured German standards alone. PS i'm a Mackem but i hope you win it !!

so use my e-mail address for contacts. It's MUCH more quick amvas@mail.ru is basical one. I can't say I know any good WWII memoricl cemestry in Moscow. A special military one is only planned to be built. I would suggest to visit some museum, Poklonnaya Gora and the Central Army Museum would be enough... Regards Alex | |
