Leger Arnhem & the Rhine Crossings tour ?

I'm thinking of going on Leger Arnhem & the Rhine Crossings tour & wonder if anyone done the tour , or could recommend a different tour company ?

Aside from the Holts, I don't think there are any other companies who do this.

As I work for Leger you maybe think I might not give you an unbiased opinion, but I would say have a look at the itinerary, have a look at Holts, check to see if any other companies do it, and see how it all fits your budget and what you want to do. Leger also have a battlefields forum accessible via their website where a number of members on there have done the tour - so you can read what they have said and maybe ask some questions?

I've been on two Leger tours so far & they been very good
I would like your opinion of the tour if you don't mind

Well, I think it is one of the better WW2 tours we do. The day at Arnhem is very good, focussing on 1st AB, and the other days will give you a good idea of the Rhineland campaign and the geography of the battlefields there. The feedback I get from regular clients who go on this is very good. But as I say, check it out and see what some others have said.

Going on this very trip on the 21st July (just booked). As an ex Para who was last there in the mid 70s to do the parachuting scenes for 'A Bridge Too Far' I'm really looking forward to it.

I hope Len will back me up and say it was blokes from the 1st Battalion in Dakotas....one guy refused in jump and so got court martialled......he only got 90 days....IIRC...the DZ for the film was about 10 miles north of Ginkel Heath at a place whose name I can't remember.....it was decided not to use DZ Y because the motorway could spoil aerial shots and too dififcult to control access from spectators.....

Was in 1 Para right enough. 1975,76 and 77. C company was 'hired' by Attenborough to do the jump scenes. He was not allowed to pay us as that would make us mercenaries so he kept us in booze for two weeks. It would have been cheaper to hand over some cash. Did enplaning (is that a word?) in British, American and Polish uniforms. Only remember jumping in British. Saw Robert Redford do a 'jump' from about three feet, suspended from a crane type thing. Can't remember how many actual jumps I did. I do remember hitting a massive camera once and I'm sure that's my feet in one of the shots. Yes one of the lads did refuse to jump. We had gone for the drop at least twice and had it cancelled as the light was not right for the cameras, but we went the third time. His nerve just could not take the repeated build ups.
Dutch civilians treated us like Lords. When we did our first mass jump from the Dakotas, Djobouti National Airways, people were in tears at the DZ. I'm sure some people had temporarily flipped back thirty odd years.
Months later I was at the Royal Premier. Not all the lads got to go, but I could hold my drink in those days:-))
