My dad always wanted to return to North Africa, sadly it wasn't to be.

Thanks spidge and everyone else for your nice comments. If anyone wants me to email them high res copies of any photo(s), just ask. I think some important Australian visitors were at El Alamein recently. The guide at the German memorial showed me some fresh flowers commenting that "the Australian General" had left them last week. If you look on Google News for stories about Australia and El Alamein http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&lr...in&sa=N&tab=wn there are a few stories coming back.

Australian Governor General in El Alamein

It was actually the Governor General of Australia.

Very interesting story with the 4 veterans of the 9th division who went also.
