Why is the bottom not sky coloured?

When the Vulcan first came into service it was all over White/sky coloured , as it was a high altidue nuclear bomber. After the Soviets perfected the SA-2 (As Mr Powers found out), they went to low level and got the all over camo.

One could only presume they are camo undernearth becuase you never get to look up at one. I can quite beleive this, Ive met plenty of Hercuales's while riding my bike round Wales that where at lower altitude them me!

Owen, these wrap around camouflage styles are intended for very low level flight. The idea is that when the plane is turning, the exposed light coloured underside will make a strong contrast against the landscape negating the attempt to camouflage.

Pity about the Vulcan, but I expect it was a very good day anyway.

Regards
