Hi,
Thanks VP for moving this.

Yes GH, went on Friday last. It is in Tower of London grounds. Dragged the kids in with me, but should have gone in alone!

Very small, but what's on display is fascinating. WWII only a small part - 2 displays, but that is about average per campaign.

What is amazing to see is the impressive collection of VCs & WWI medals all lined up in a row - clearly marked with a small biog and photo. Of course the Boer War displays grabbed my attention also. A few illustrated info boards fill up the gaps between displays, but are not terribly informative beyond the basic. Got a small book, but haven't had a chance to read it yet.

There is a small extra entrance fee £1, on top of that for the Tower itself, worth it to get away from the crowds if nothing else.

Thanks Marcus, for the comment about the pics, hard to take more than snaps when my kids are around.

I had no idea the museum was there. Much preferable to those over-rated baubles (or are they copies ?) that we were forced to see on school trips.

Interesting to see the camouflaged Mk11 helmet from Salerno. I wonder how widespread the practice was ?

Those V.C. / M.M. groups are special, aren't they ? What a shame that the background info is limited to the original citation. There must be much more that could be said about their careers. One group includes the present Queen and the other commences in South Africa.

Rich,
It's a nice place to have the Mess too! The info was basic admittedly, but at least these medals had photos etc. alongside them. I am sorry that I didn't have peace to photograph them all and to do it properly.

The Guards Museum at Wellington barracks has a lovely display of VCs etc close to the entrance, but you'd have to go back and forward to a folder with laminated photocopied sheets to read up on the recipients!

The prices that the gift shops were charging, you'd think the original baubles were being sold there. Pleased to say my daughter, spent her money in this Museum shop!

Cheers for these Diane, never been in RF Museum even though I've been around the Tower a few times.
(Strange, I know, me not going into a Regimental Museum.)

Who was the DCM for underneath the MG 34?
