Off to Nuremberg

I am off to Nuremberg next weekend to do a bit of sightseeing. Done a bit of homework but wondered whether anyone has been and what they would suggest we do from a WW2 slant.

Would really like to visit the courtroom where the trials were held but not sure whether than is possible.

Re: Off to Nuremberg

Find the Noris-ring, the race track. That's where the Party rallies were held.
I've put co-ords for it on the Google-earth thread.
I'd like to go there to watch the DTM oneday.

Liam you can still visit the courthouse and they have the guided tours but they are in German. Also you can visit the site of the rallies, I have been told it still holds it's atmosphere. The following link might be of some help.
Nuremberg Trials - Documentation Centre Nazi Party Rally Grounds - Memorium Nuremberg Trials

Just got back from my trip - excellent time had by all.

Managed to visit the Zepplinfeld where the rallies were held. It is right next door to the football ground. Also went to the Congress Hall and visited the museum there.

My wife managed to visit the courts of justice - I was playing football against a team of Germans so could not go. Not me on my own I hasten to add - there were 15 of us in the party - all part of the Nuremberg FC UK Supporters Club.

I have attached a pic of the Congress Hall. If it works I will post some more if anyone is interested.

So much for the thousand year Reich.

Excellent photographs.The camera is history

Recognised the Congress Hall.I think it was unfinished at the war end and construction was delayed due to Allied bombing.

Off the cuff, the site had problems with the high water table and during construction, progress depended on site drainage pumps to keep the site dry. However, Allied bombing resulted in the failure to maintain the site drainage system, hence the present lake.

The area just north of Nuremberg is beautiful country.I used the Bundestaat roads to bypass the bottleneck on the motorway on my way down to Passau. Stayed in a Bavarian Forest village, on the day we arrived the local football team,Egging am See, were playing Nuremberg FC in a friendly (it was a weakened side). It was the year 2001/2002 preseason when Nuremberg had been promoted to Bundesleague.
