Lightbulb WW2 Society Feedback - Your Input Please

Ok, we are gradually kick-starting the WW2 Society.

We would be very interested and appreciative of any input you can give on what direction the Society should or could go in, and what you would like to get out of being a member of it. The may well be some obvious stuff we are missing, and all and every comment welcome - even if we don't act on it immediately.

Comments on a Field Postcard, please!

Opinions cunningly disguised as great thought...

I think;

if it's dedicated to the British and Commonwealth side of things, it might be a good idea to name it as such (eg: B&CWW2 Soc.).

you might consider founding it on either the 3rd of Sept next year, to tie it in with the start of the war and the 70th anniversary.

a cracking newsletter is a must really, something which members go "wow" when they get it. Would this be printed, web pdf or both?

the AGM is a good idea, I'd suggest tying it in with a big event or venue (eg War & peace, IWM, etc) so that it also offers a good promotional opportunity for the soc. as well as the original function. It might be a good idea to move the event/venue to get a wider reach.

it's worth considering linking the expertise of the membership with the chance to make simple WW2 presentations at schools. A few "generic" presentations could be created to be given all over the place by members. It's not a great earner but it would boost funds a little. It might also open the doors for further funding from a third party.

cheers,

Apologies, I have been away for the last 9 days.

The plan initially is to publish it in pdf format and make it available to members via this website, and on the WW2 Society website. As there are no print costs, it will be full colour. Articles for the first issue are already coming in and/or are in preparation. More welcome!

Once we have a wider membership and move towards paid membership the journal will go into print format, as is usual with a society of this nature. However, we can't run before we can walk!

Hi Annie,

As mentioned above I have been away, so excuse the delay in replying.

While the Society is located and largely revolves around here and the Society website, it will be free. Even though it is 'free' people will still have to join, and thus enable them to access member only content related to the Society. At least, that's the plan.

There will only be a membership fee once we go towards being a more conventional society.

If articles for journal are being sought, then are guidelines for format or length available?

I'd also agree with the comment above that the name should reflect the aims. If the name doesn't make it clear that it's intended principally to be a British Commonwealth orientated body when it is, then the organisers will get hassle and complaints from people about 'British bias'.
