    Hi all,
First post here, not sure if this is the right place but here goes!
Since first reading A Bridge Too Far many years ago I have been trying to find out some more info about Lieutenant Michael Long of the Glider Pilot Regiment (AB2F page 457 in my copy) as I share his name. Any suggestions?
I have visited Arnhem several times and always find it very moving. I think my interest in Arnhem goes back to a magazine - World of Wonder - that I got as a kid and one issue was titled 'drop onto Arnhem and die' with a fairly brief account of the battle. Bumped into another Brit in the bar in the hotel 'Old Dutch' in Arnhem a few years ago and he said that's where his interest started from too!
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Mike Long

    Paul,
Glad I'm not the only night bird here, thanks for the amazingly prompt reply!
Seen the 1BA Officers site, was hoping for a little more information. I will look out for the Pen and Sword book.
    Many thanks again,

    Mike

After treating casualties on Ginkel Heath he was in a garage in western Arnhem on the Klinglebeekseweg...once SM told he it was either this house or this house...he couldn't be sure after about 55 years.......he died a few years ago....then he was as Levien says mainly in the Schoonoord..then went to Apeldoorn....at Oosterbeek he did on ocassion pop into the Vreewijk and says he was the officer who told Wilson he may have to withdraw.....

    Medic 7922,

I've been through about 18 books on the GPR at Arnhem and can't see your man I'm afraid. I guess we'll all have to wait for the new book to come out!! :)

    All the best,

    Paul..............

    Hello mate,

Back in August '07 I paid £23 for a near mint copy. It is signed though so that would have bumped the price up! :)

    just received this:

    Dear Friends of 13 Platoon,

After a true Odyssey we finally reached our goal! The book on 13 Platoon at Arnhem 1944 on which we worked for so long has been published. Already many copies have been shipped to Gazelle Books for distribution and in the next few days my publisher Aspekt will send out press releases to media that are likely to be interested. So, hopefully the book will get some attention at the 65 year Commemorations of the battle.

With the following information the book can be ordered at local book shops in Great Britain or contact Gazelle Books, Gareth Hindson Gazelle Menu

    Title: No Return Flight
    Author: Haks Walburgh Schmidt
    2009, Uitgeverij Aspekt
    ISBN 978-90-5911-000-0
(should the book store have any difficulty in finding it, they can contact Gazelle Menu from Gazelle Books, the English distributor.)

The price of the book is 25 British pounds, the publisher told me.

The book can also be bought in the Netherlands in the book shops and it will also become available worldwide through Amazon.com.

I cannot begin to express my gratitude and appreciation for all the help and support you gave me through all these years. Without it , this moment would not have been possible. Still, at this moment I also think about the late Morley Williams and Cyril Crickett who only lived to see the Dutch version of the book. I feel I failed them in a way, although their story has now been saved from oblivion.

I hope that you will enjoy reading this remarkable story, take pride in your contribution to it and look forward to hearing from you again.

    Hi Philip,

Do you employ someone to go through every magazine ever printed to see if there's an 'Arnhem' article in it??? :D

I salute your powers of discovery mate!! ;)

    Best regards,

    Paul..............
