have you any further info on Francis Hamilton on the ww2 plaque?

 

Anyone have any information regarding the death of:-

Gunner Shaun Creaney, Service Number 1471268 who was 18 years old when he died on 23rd April 1941.
Shaun was the Son of John and Jane Creaney, of Lurgan.
He was serving with 47 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery.

Any information would be much appreciated.

Sorry to write over your comment Andy, but wanted to highlight also Rifleman James Murtagh MM from Lurgan who died 76 years ago tomorrow, 15th August, as a result of wounds suffered at Maletto in Sicily on 12th August '43.

Jim Murtagh was a friend of my father and, perhaps because of the limited entry on the CWGC site, isn't named on the Lurgan Roll of Honour/War Memorial. Slightly unusually, his Military Medal was awarded posthumously. On my advice, the CWGC amended their record to include the award of the MM about 2 years ago but it has yet to be included on his grave marker in Tripoli. We only "know" he was from Lurgan due to the LG entry for the MM....clip attached.

I wonder how much his family knew...

My father's memory of Jim:
"I heard sad news. James Murtagh, my friend and assistant from my stint in the sergeants’ mess, had died of gangrene after sustaining a shrapnel wound earlier. He was a brave man who had been awarded the MM."

probably died on route to hospital in Libya..
