Adam et all - Do you know when I last donated? Happy to donate again if it was a year ago?

Think it was August, we'll probably get a message to renew if we would like to.

    Lesley

Edit to add: Under account upgrades, it says when individual's subscriptions expire, mine August 15th

Drew it says on your profile page. I have read through the thread it advises how to become a patron but not how to renew.

I do believe it was August-ish.
Boss said something recently, in passing, about the begging bowl being deployed again soon.
Wait out and I'm sure he'll pop up with details come the time.

    Aha! Time to re-assert:
THIS WILL NEVER BE A 'PAY' SITE.
Donations are bloody marvellous and our gratitude immense - we are held afloat by everyone's astonishing generosity when Otto instituted this, but we really don't ever want anyone to feel they must cough up to engage fully in the place.

Adam, silly question may be, I take its time for donations? More than willing to pay what ever the donations. I'm sure the server can be upgraded to 3mb per post. I have transcribed a War diary in my own hand writing, & it has taken me a while to complete. How do i show it in its entirety? Please see attachment. Its taken me about two years work on & off. I needed to sharpen my pencil a few times.

    Regards

Things like that I suspect are best saved all combined together in a single .pdf, .doc, whatever, clearly labelled and then uploaded to the resources section, where I think upload sizes are quite meaty, and the very act of combining them usually means file size can be reduced drastically by whatever program is used.

    Stu,

That's a work of art, my friend.

More work is probably the last thing you're thinking about, but typing those up to make them searchable documents would be a great assistance to other researchers and possibly yourself.

I haven't done any for months, but I have made a start on doing this for 1/4th Essex's Diaries.

Thank you to you both. I'm still left with no answer has what to do (its probably me being a muppet). The forum has shrunk over the years. I could have posted each page when it was 10mb per post.

James, you are a smart cookie when it comes to these things! Would it be be OK to send you what i have? I would like it to be on the forum for anyone to read. I know its a large ask. The resize things gets on my nerves. Its a tale of a old boy that went out to France in Sept 39, & came back in June 40. The original hand writing was a bag of spanners. It took about eight weeks to transcribed.

    Regards

A WW2F member directed me to this thread (I find it heartening that most people have a definite preference between 2T vs 2F, but there is genuine respect for the other site rather than anything approaching rancor for the other site/side).

I'd like to reiterate the earlier comments of von Poop: this will never be a 'pay' site. On 27 August 2007 I became the owner* of WW2Talk, which means we are just a week away from 10 years of Otto as your benevolent dictator, and I've not gone that direction. I decided we wouldn't be a pay site back then, and I'm still saying it now. A ten year track record is hard to disagree with.
*I think I could have justifiably used the term "rescued" over "became the owner" but that's another discussion.

On related note, I want to address something I've heard a few times from members who sent notes to me which combined both appreciation of the site & apologies that they could not become Patrons due to their financial circumstances. Make no mistake, your donations and support of this site (and WW2F) are incredibly useful and helpful. 100% of the funds go towards the array of server hosting, domain registration, software licenses, and other fees that are required to run these sites. That said, if becoming a Patron or donating to our cause causes any hardship to your budget in any way, then please do not donate. On the other hand, if you are one of the fortunate people whose finances put you in a position that you can help, and you don't have to do the math on how it will impact your budget, then you are literally keeping this site live and helping preserve military history. To be succinct, if you 1) think this site is a worthy the investment and 2) you can spare the funds, then please become a Patron or donate. I you do not meet both criterion of this, then please feel free to use the site guilt free and without reservation.

With respect to Patrons, there is no time specific time of year when it is helpful for members to support the site per se. It so happens a tonne of you generous members started supporting the site in June/July of 2016 since that's when the 1-year Patron option was first offered. As we are a year out from that, a few of your accounts have expired, but I'm heartened to see so many of you have decided to renew. You support is sincerely appreciated and goes a long way to supporting what we do here. Gramercy!

If you are interested in renewing, you can do so in your account menu here:

A small update to the Patron system. I've changed the Patron fee from GBP (£) to USD ($). Although I'm not an American, our hosting is in the US and accepting currencies other than USD is wreaking administrative havoc in terms of accounting. Our PayPal system does currency conversions automatically, so it shouldn't be a problem one way or another on your end. Essentially, I've offloaded the currency conversion to during the payment rather than after payment. The somewhat volatile currency markets also make this better on my side when balancing income vs bills.

For those who want other options, there is no need to make payments digitally if you don't want to. Shoot me an email at the address in my signature if you are interested in other methods to donate/become a site Patron.

Shocked/surprised/impressed etc. at those of you who've contributed again already with barely a poke of this thread.
The cash is all put to good use on vodka and fags keeping the old place rolling.

    Once again: Cheers, chaps.
    Great stuff.

Me too. I have nearly worked out how to renew my patronship but I cannot see how to donate. I set aside a sum each year for research material, mainly copies of records from Kew, but forum members have been so generous in sharing material that I have not managed to spend any at all. It seems only fair that I should donate some of it.

    Thanks Owen,

I had got as far as the Patron box but not plucked up courage to press the purchase button.

If I read it correctly Peter, and I, were also asking how to donate. This was an option last year.

    Mike

    PS.
Just noticed that my Patron banner has disappeared. I suppose that should have been a clue that it was time to pay.
