Bit of background on these 2 casualties.

SS Clan Forbes was damaged in an air raid on Tilbury Docks 16/08/1940 killing 4 members of the crew.

A local researcher pointed out to IFCP that Walker Stephenson was buried at Chadwell St Mary's Cemetery. On obtaining the burial register the entry in the register above that of Walker was Tobarak Ali. Everyone on the burial register page had been killed in air raids. Sadly we have not yet found the burial place of the other 2 crew members.

I know in my original post on the discovery of the first 2 men's grave that no trace could be found of the other 2 crewmen. However on the visit of CWGC to Chadwell they did find evidence of the burial. The missing crew of the Clan Forbes are missing no more.

    Grave Found Edinburgh Seafield Cemetery.

The briefest of mentions to the sinking was in the Daily Herald 7th October 1939. The very wording of the article showed that the crew had been landed with the exception of David. This led me to look at his MN record card on ancestry which gave me an address. Burial register from Seafield confirmed address & the ships name.

temptage I thought it would only take a few weeks......

Six men were killed from the North Devon on the attacks on the 5th & 6th February and although Tower Hill Commemorates three of the names, the bodies of all the dead were landed ashore. Douglas Crichton was cremated so his name was placed on Tower Hill. Reggie Earnshaw was found to buried in Comely Bank Cemetery and Reginald Mitchell was found to buried in Piershill Cemetery, Edingburgh

CRICHTON, Boy, DOUGLAS STEWART, S.S. North Devon (Newcastle-on-Tyne). Merchant Navy. 7th July 1941. Age 16. (Recorded as 17 years old by CWGC. Family member states true age as 16.)

Ive seen these two records and am certain they are one and the same person.

Having been involved with 2 others on this forum - Roger and Billy, I agree with you. Douglas Crichton's body was cremated, he was aged 16. His death was registered in Grimsby and his last known place of abode was 2 Henderson Row, Edinburgh. The other young lad was Reginald Earnshaw aged only 14 and to-date is the youngest service casualty of WW2.

    Regards
    Hugh

Just caught up with this one.

We can sort the duplicate entry easy enough.

I think I have found the cremation register for him at Edinburgh so will report back later.
