Right, just checked CWGC and he's listed with 1st East Riding Yeomanry at the time of his death on CWGC - Completely different unit. Casualty Details
Regiment at Enlistment: 15th/19th King's Royal Hussars RAC Branch at Enlistment: Royal Armoured Corps Theatre of War: France and Belgium Campaign, 1939/40 Regiment at Death: East Riding of Yorkshire Yeomanry RAC TD edited to add: Its why we need his service records
He was in 4 Troop, C Squadron and was in one of two carriers ambushed by Germans near Foret de Nieppe whilst on patrol.
Hello was withe East Riding RAC SO I DON'T KNOW BUT WOULD HE THEN OF BEEN PLACED WITH 15/19 KINGS HUSSARS BUT I DON'T KNOW ALL HIS PAPERS SHOW EAST RIDING YEO THEN 15/19 KINGS HUSSARS HAND ON HEART I DON'T HAVE A CLUE COULD HE OF DONE HIS BASIC TRAINING WITH EAST RIDING?
I'm still not sure where the Kings Hussars comes into it. For me he's East Riding Yeomanry all day or certainly with them at the time of his death. He's recorded on CWGC with them and he's buried in the same cemetery with two other chaps from the same unit and the same date of death. The war diary comes in two parts and the CO's diary mentions two carriers being ambushed on the date of his death with one killed and three missing-To me I'd bet my mortgage these are the same men. His grave location isn't known plus there's a few Known to God graves in there which could belong to the fourth missing man or he survived the war.
Thats why we need his service records, so that we can see what happened Mark, Have you applied/are you applying for them?? TD
Mark From a search I found this thread as you were searching for information about Edward Wiseman of the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars/ Royal Armoured Corps but on the Day of the First East Riding Yeomanry I found it as Edward is buried alongside my wife's uncle Thomas Brogden. Like you I wanted to find out more about how and where they died in action. We have visited the graves and it is an unusual site as it is on a grassy strip in the middle of the graveyard of the church in Renescure. I am making the strong assumption that Edward and Thomas were friends and compatriots who fought together and died together. Too young. If you do or have found any more information I would be very interested to hear from you. In particular any photographs! May their sacrifice not be in vain. Regards Rupert
