    Hi

The only Helen Wilkinson born in 1945 (in North East) was in the summer :
    Name: Helen Wilkinson
    Mother's Maiden Surname: Scott
    Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1945
    Registration district: Gateshead
    Inferred County: Durham
    Volume Number: 10a
    Page Number: 1202

but there is one born in 1944 in the North East that fits the bill
    Name: Helen Wilkinson
    Mother's Maiden Surname: Baitey
    Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1944
    Registration district: Tynemouth
    Inferred County: Cumberland, Northumberland, Westmorland
    Volume Number: 10b
    Page Number: 334

But you say she was Jan 1945 - so effectively its neither of the above - confusing, I guess if you know her mothers maiden name it will differentiate which one

  4. Her father's name was Donald Wilkinson

That doesn't help define which Helen we are looking for - it is her mothers maiden name that will tell you which trail to follow - if in fact it is either of them

Headstone pictures of Ernest John Hollands parents grave arrived today. Unfortunately no dates of birth, no marker for Ellen's death in '67.

It reads "In loving memory of Ernest Holland beloved husband of Ellen Holland, who fell asleep May 23, 1934, age 51 years. A token of love from his wife & son".

This at least confirms Ernest John was the only child.

Good afternoon, I appreciate this thread is almost 4 years old and it's original purpose long since passed. I'm also not sure if anyone will spot my post? However, my Grandmother was Ernest Holland's cousin. Her maiden name was Doreen Hall, if this helps? (Married name Doreen Dayman). I think I spotted the name Hall is some of the research you have all kindly done. She grew up in Leicester/shire which again might help. Interesting, one of the maiden names you had researched for Ernest's mother was suggested to be Barwell. Barwell is actually the name of a village of the Leicestershire/Warwickshire boarder. Not sure if there is a link there or just a coincidence.

Unfortunately my Grandma passed away in 2016 therefore would have been able to attend the ceremony to dedicate to the new memorial is 2018. However I'm pleased to say that during her lifetime she did get the chance to visit Ernest's grave in France, accompanied by her daughter (my aunt). Apparently the Mayor of the village met them and they had tea (or more likely cafè) in his office.

The details we had on Ernest and the crash were vague at best, (we thought is was 1944) however a trip to the IBCC in Lincoln at the weekend spurned on myself and my Dad and Mum to try to find out more. Your thread has been immensely helpful and in particular the pictures and posters are great. We knew he had been a 'poster boy' but the family oral record was wrong about which poster he was on. It's lovely to see the correct one on here and see his face.

My Grandma did create her family tree (the Hall side) however I have no idea where this could now be. Most likely with my Aunt, her daughter. This document I'm sure would have given us the answers you needed 4 years ago.

Thank you all again for trying so hard to track down his relatives and for providing extra info on Ernest.
