Thank you so much for this information, I never knew much about his Army service, he never talked about it much, my aunt said he wasn't the same after the war, guess i can understand more now after reading this

Very much so, he was 21 at the time, I had no idea of his war service, sadly he passed away when I was 16, he never spoke about the war
My grandfather was in the first world war, my dad, uncle and aunt were all in the second war and all survived fortunately

    Hi Emelia,

I am doing research on LONG events in the Somme, I am in contact with the family of Fed Haywood, who was killed while trying to fix a cable with your father.

    Best regards

    Hello Emelia

My name is Guy Moore and I'm married to Caroline Hyde, the great grandaughter of Fred Haywood. I've visited Long where he was killed a couple of times and they have named the bridge after him. Can you tell me anything about your grandfather? I'm trying towrite a film about this episode and I need as much information as possible.
    Many thanks
    Guy
