    'Evening chums,

I haven't posted here for a while now as I haven't seen anything remotely suitable lately. Perhaps it has to do with the end of one financial year, the start of another, and some wierd cycle of museum funding. Rest assured, I continue to scan the horizon.

A couple of nice opportunities for the right persons:

    JOB DESCRIPTION 1

    Position: Director/CEO

    Organisation: The Gurkha Museum Trust

Location: Peninsula Barracks, Winchester, SO23 8TS

Salary: In excess of £50,000 per annum.

    Details: Full Time

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Director/CEO to manage the day to day operations of The Gurkha Museum Trust, due to the impending retirement of the current Director, Gavin Edgerley-Harris. The right candidate must be ready to model and build upon the culture of the Museum and the Brigade of Gurkhas. They must provide inspired leadership to the executive team, establish an excellent working relationship with the Board of Trustees and all elements of the Brigade of Gurkhas and implement the Museum’s strategy.

Based in the heart of Winchester in Hampshire, the Gurkha Museum commemorates and celebrates the Gurkha’s 204 years of loyal, gallant and successful service to this Country, in peace and war. Having recently become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, the Museum is moving through a period of positive development and renewal and is looking to recruit a highly competent Director, to head a small but growing team in all aspects of its operations.

The successful candidate will be a senior manager capable of leading a diverse military museum in the 21st Century, while personally committing to the heritage and ethos of the Brigade of Gurkhas as well as the culture of Nepal. This will require a significant capability immediately on appointment, in leading and developing a fundraising and legacy programme both of a routine and capital nature. The new Director will also have demonstrable skills to lead an executive team and a diverse workforce. They will be a proven and accomplished administrator, capable of preparing papers and briefing at both strategic and operational level and have a track record of leading and implementing change at a senior level.

They should also have sound project management skills and experience of management reporting, financial planning and budgetary control. Knowledge and an understanding of operating in a museum, charity or military environment would be preferable, whilst an ability to communicate well, prioritise and work in a customer focused, self-motivated way will be essential.

Please apply with your CV and Supporting Statement in MS Word format to Martin Brooks (Chairman of Trustees) martin.r.brooks@gmail.com quoting reference “Director 2020”
