A short introduction and hello from a fellow ww interested person.

I'm a 41 year old person named Eskil from Sweden that have found this page due to the great radio pod "Fighting through".

I come from a line of fishermen and my interests in ww's started at a very young age, When I was a child laying on my grandfather's arm listening to his story's about what they had to endure in those times.

Looking forward to some interesting reading on this site and talking to people with great knowledge.

    Best regards
    Eskil

Well I'm very much interested in the sea warfare from ww2 but that's not something I am hang up to.. in honestly I'm not that interested in the facts about wars.. I'm much more into the storyline of the small men, their stories of what they wherein to.
I love the books about one single soldier insted of the generals so to speak.

    Thank you.
I'm not particularly into a surten thing, But I do like to here about the soldiers stories rather then the political side of the wars, But to give you an answer, I'm more interested in the German point of wiew rather then the American fore example.
How they thought and what they felt in the end of the war and so on.

    Eskil,
Hello and welcome to the Forum.
The Bunker is buried under a car park which was made a few years ago.
Understandable that the authorities did not want a focus point for Neo Nazi's.
If you want to see reports by average soldiers in WW2, there are many on this forum and the BBC History records.
    Regards
Tom ( English and retired in Berlin )

Are you interested in your own country's attitude during WW2?
You probably know a lot about it already.

    Hey TriciaF.
Yes I'd say I'm interested in that ofcourse and I should probobly know more about it then a person from a different country, But one can never know too much or everything I guess.
But the difference is probably that a person from a different country can only know what he/sha has learned from a book/article.

But we have talkt about it all our life from time to time, but Moore so if you have an interest in the subject so to speak.
I have one thing that I've been thinking about alot and that is Görings involvement is Sweden and I think that he had alot to do in why we where able to remain neutral throughout the war.

This is the bit of WW2 Swedish history that I've heard about:
    http://www.thankstoscandinavia.org/the-rescues/sweden/
I was friendly with a holocaust survivor who found refuge in Sweden, not sure at what stage in the war, she wouldn't talk about it. Eventually came to England where she married and produced a family here. She was always equally grateful to both countries. As is her daughter, who is another friend of mine.
The old lady passed away recently.

That is nice to hear about, and yes there are some truly amazing life stories too read about and Sweden did it out most to save as many as we could.
But there where also alot of nationalsocialists in Sweden at that time, but most of them where in the big citys.
And most of the rescue actions where kept to the smaller communities along the coast or railroads in small villages.

Many seem to think that everything was great fore Sweden due to the neutrality, but it wasn't,
Fore example I'll take the fisherman's, They had to go out and fish even if they new and lived in fear from all the mines!
And apart from that everyone was shooting at them as well.. Germans because the thought they where smuggling Englishmen.. And England because the thought they where smuggling Germans, And Russians just Shoot on everything theay could hit.
So there is neutrality for you:unsure:
