    Steve,

I shall do that but looking at the information I would bet he was our man... He had the rank and was a senior medic so I guess there would have been no one better qualified... but as you said the others need to be eliminated first...

    Regards,
    John

    John,

Its not for me to say, but for you to prove. Good luck.

    Steve,

    Thanks Steve...
The first thing I know from the lists on Mansell is that he was the only John Martin in Oeyama POW camp...

    John,

You can’t fully rely on that. Referring back to my grandad being handed over to Capt. Man. My grandad was liberated from Wakinohama, he was previously at Kobe House.

Capt. Man was also at Kobe House but moved in March 1945 (if i remember correctly) to Osaka#4 so was separated from my grandad’s group of prisoners. So being in the same camp might not necessarily mean that this is your man.

I’d say that you are probably correct but i’d do a bit more leg work, if you want to fully prove it. Theres always a smart arse out there who wants to rip your work to bits!

    Steve,

I totally agree with you Steve... and I shall look further into it... After the initial find I would say he is the one but like you said it needs further proof or elimination of possible others...

    Thanks again...
    Regards,
    John

    Hi Steve,
I found the train records when they left Oeyama and my uncle was on the train that Major John Martin was in charge of.....!
It states train No 2, Carriage 2 for Charles Bennett and train No 2, Carriage 1 for Major John J Martin. John Martin was the ranking officer. The sad thing is that there was no destination on the train records...
He was also sat next to another guy from Royal Engineers. A mate from Hong Kong I would guess...

    John

Write to the Mod Medal office or email them

They will confirm what medals issued, if they were never claimed then the nok can claim them

I can see you the Oeyama Train details if you like...

    Just a bit more Tim.
On Mansell in centre isle it says Osaka main camp, hit that and scroll down the page it brings up, until you get to Osaka assorted documents (train schedules)...

    John,
Many thanks for that. It never ceases to amaze me what is hidden away on the Mansell site.
