My niece sent me some photos of what she has of my late father in law's army records etc , any help of regiments he was with please , I think because of his age he was called up when close to the end of the war , I'm sure he mentioned Burma but can't correctly remember . Any help please so I can pass onto my niece
They are not his 'army/service records' as has been mentioned before, if you want to know about someones military career, [who they were with, where and when] you need to apply for their service records, and the forms are Request records of deceased service personnel One piece of paper shows he served with General Service Corps Royal Wesh Fusiliers (hence the feather) Border Regt East Lancs In what capacity he was with them will be found in his service records, as will his travels TD
Thanks for the info ..I'll get her to apply for them ..any idea what the bag is with Japanese writing on it ?
No idea, if he was out in Burma it may be a souvenir [either in Chinese or Japanese] - but perhaps you could research the 'black cat' and the '16' a little more. TD
As per advice above you must get the service records to complete the picture, meanwhile, from the Royal Welsh Fusiliers transfer in register:- If you can't read the words on the rhs they say "Docs to Preston", as per one of your photos.
You've already spotted that the badges - not patches - are those of 17 Indian Division. 4 Border were in 63 Indian Brigade of 17 Indian Division during 1946-47 - exactly the time that your father-in-law was with that regiment. Get his service records and confirm the details.
Thank you ,she's going to apply for his service records so there be more questions I'm sure , thank you all again
