    Hi to all,

I was just wondering if anyone has the war diaries of the 5 Buffs, 6 RWK & 8 A & SH for the period of November 1944 through till 19 January 1945? I do have the Historical Records of the Buffs, The Queen's Royal West Kent Regiment 1920-1950 & the History of the 8 A & SH by Malcolm. I'm more than willing to do any scans of the above records if anyone can provide the above diaries?

I've attached a image taken from the History of the First Division Florence to Monte Grande Aug 44-Jan 45.
Appendix ' A', II-- Defence of Monte Grande only 2 Nov 44 to 19 Jan 45. I will leave 19 Indian Brigade for another time when it comes to obtaining the relevant diaries. The (TOTAL ALL RANKS) does not look good for both brigades for a short period of time in action..

    Much appreciated.

There is a battalion (not regimental) history for 6RWK, but it's not cheap.

The Spirit Lives On by Paul. A. Riches.

Not had a chance to have a look for it has yet! Nice one for the heads-up. I did not know of the book. How much is not cheap? If its that expensive, then its not worth obtaining. You must have tried to obtain a copy?

Never saw a copy for less than £75--and it's quite a slim book. Think it will be higher now.

Privately published and hence, now, rare.

6RWK relieved 1/4 Essex at Cassino.

I can understand why you would want to try & obtain it but it (looks has if i don't need it!) 75 sheets is a liberty. What:bandit:s

I only have the 6RWK diary for the first part of 1944.
If that's any guide, when you do get a copy of late '44 and early '45 you will be pleased: it should be detailed and bursting with appendices.

I tried to copy the 5th Buffs 1944 war diary last week. The National Archives don't have it and I've requested the Gov Dept. return it so it will be a good few weeks yet before it's available assuming they haven't lost it like they usually do.

I had the same problem with 2 North Staffs.. That nice chap called Gary Tankard found them for me!

Andy, please keep me informed as & when.

Andy, thanks for letting me know about 5 Buffs (they must be improving) & not before time!

Charley, what month does the first part end? Some coin could be saved here. Fingers crossed that 8 A & SH is also split?

    Regards,
    Stu.

I had remembered it as January to March, but on checking it seems to be until May.
