    Thanks I appreciate any input
Yes I have seen the same photo that states
    Officers and NCO's.
Which does make a bit of sense I'm sure he did say he did have a rank but demoted himself
According to his papers he did go AWOL a number of times
    With docked pay detention etc
I have papers back this up.
Unfortunately I lost dad when he was only 67

Correction just blown it up and yes there's bits missing on that one youve put up.
On my copy taken from original
There is 12 sat on floor 6 each side.
And there's no mention on this one of officers and Nco's

    D Moore,

Sorry not 12 Para related but your father was wounded on 30 May 1940 with 2/5th Bn Leicestershire Regiment in France.

Thank you very much for that,
Didn't know he was wounded in france,as I have not looked into that regiment yet.
I did know he was wounded several times in his army career by shrapnel most of it
As he had at least 3 scars
    Big one in his neck
Buttocks and back if I remember right.
If you find anything else please let me know.
Searching through his papers it appears he was at Hardwick from 1941 to when he left ringway in 1944 then onto the holding unit.
But there is a lot of colour full reading by means of AWOL , detention tried by court martial etc etc.
One thing I have found out is that the pictures of the 12th Yorkshire parachute BATTALION on para data.
The date of February 1944 is incorrect
It's more likely to be end of may 1944
    When the BATTALION was together
As dad didn't leave Ringway until 13 may 1944,
And he appears on all 3 photos,
    Thanks again Brithm.

    Dave,

Is there any chance you could scan and upload his service records?

Does anyone have a grid ref or a picture of the quarry that the 12th Battalion used as their RV when they jumped near Ranville on D-Day? I 'think' it's the place circled on the map, but it seems pretty nondescript, albeit 75+ years later. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi Jungly,

According to 5 PARA BDE OO No.1, under section 10:

RVs after landing and Rallying Sigs:
    12 Para Bn - QUARRY 113749 - RED light & whistle

This would have been the big quarry below La Haute Ecarde just west of LZ N on road D514 which is now filled in. The circular area you point to is near quarry where the 6th Airborne Division HQ moved on June 25th.

Brilliant, thank you! I'd seen 3 different grids for different units and tried to ascertain where it might have been via Google maps and driving up and down that road. I didn't know that it had been filled in.
I've got to ask, where did you find that pic?

    Jungly,

The aerial is a stitch from the Laurier Collection under France, Calvados, Box 0309 - approximately numbers 3163 to 3168. Not the best resolution as it was created from free images on site.

Have been trying to find out where my late father ( Lesley Basil Tuck ) 12th Yorkshires was injured in Normandy He told us a few tales when in the right frame of mind and I know he survived Bréville but at some stage he was left for dead and picked up by following infantry . He was taken from a hospital and shipped home with the battalion in September I believe .
