Hello, I am wondering if anyone might be able to shed some light on the tac signs seen on the Carrier Plt of the 9th Cameronians for OP Epsom. Seen is an outline not observed on other tac markings of the Div. It is not white. I do not have a high resolution photo of it unfortunately. Does anyone know the color and or any significant meaning of the outline? Also on the Tac number there appears to be writing under it, also not observed on others. This photo has been misidentified as 2nd GH of the same brigade. Thank you in advance for any help you may he able to provide.
Found another example of the outline on another vic of the 9th. Starting around 2:40 you can see a better clearer close up of the possible anti strafe panel. Soon after you can see these vics. The film seems to be all the mixed B roll footage from Epsom. The 9th is in there as well. The picture is to large to upload. However it is on a lorry with two men moving beside it. It is a frontal view with other ones behind in a field around 2:54
The still is B5990 and the film of it is A70 58-13 at 0m 6s . The 2 vehicles stopped in the frontal view is again A70 58-13 at 1m 40s. OPERATION EPSOM - 8TH CORPS' FORMATIONS IN ACTION (PART 2) [Allocated Title]
Yes the photo shown is available through IWM online collection. However the photo uploaded which is most likely from and or rights purchased from the IWM for a book on the operation. To be clear you are referring to the original post and not the one regarding the youtube video showing a war time US news film. The B roll footage seen in that film can be seen at the IWM online film archive by searching Operation Epsom.
Unfortunately I am using my phone right now. Can anyone tell what is written under the 60? THE BRITISH ARMY IN THE NORMANDY CAMPAIGN 1944
I know the film by the reel numbers. If you have them a lot of searching can be avoided. One of the few IWM EPSOM Films not yet uploaded is A70 59-8 and that is the traffic through the flooded Cheux and the 3 young German POWs Being questioned in the first film you linked.
Yes not to bad. Thank you for sharing. Interesting fact: The Brigade units during Epsom are seen without the light weight respirator bag because of an order to put them in the transports. This is mentioned in the div signals section war diary.
Thank you for taking the time! We are currently researching the 9th Battalion to recreat them in April of 2020.
