Apologies if this has been asked before, but I'm a relative newcomer to ww2talk. Despite my online searching all I can find is a Resincraft kit in Australia going for £155! Does anyone know of anything else out there in the way of kits (any scale) or accessories? I have no scratch building skills so that is out of the question. Many thanks in advance.
Milicast if you're prepared to go 1/76th: Milicast Model Company :: Premiere Range (1/76) :: British & Commonwealth :: Fully Tracked Armour - Tanks, SPG's, ARV's., etc., :: Sherman Mk.V DD Tank with fully lowered screen
I guess it depends too what you want the model to look like? i.e. canvas screens up or down, or you can be allowed to "choose". Swimming and/or deployed There are a number of different options, for example discussed here... Mad Tin Hatter!: Search results for DD tanks
I plan to do the de-frocked version so this has been a great help. My father drove a DD with the 25th Dragoons in India. Not sure if that's him in the attached photo but it's certainly a 25th tank.
Great pic! This is a Sherman III (M4A2) DD, which was developed to replace the Sherman V (M4A4) DD (as used on D Day) when Sherman V production was discontinued whereas Sherman III (diesel engined) tanks still were in ample supply. These models were used during the Rhine Crossing and in the Far East. This particular tank has the characteristic "middle production" driver and co-driver "square" (angular) welded hoods. I don't think there's a complete kit for this specific DD type, but it should be easy enough to adapt a DD add-on kit intended for a Sherman V to a Sherman III kit. Altough tank numbering systems varied greatly between different units, this tank number 40 might have been the 'B' Squadron Leader's. Do you happen to know your father's Troop and/or Squadron, or maybe the name or rank of his tank commander? Michel
Thanks All I do know is that he wasn't in 1 Troop, B Squadron. This has been confirmed by another member in the Burma & India section. However thanks for the rest of your response as it was very informative. for the info Michel.
