HELP. I've been doing some research on the location of Adolf Diekmann's death location. He was killed by artillery fire outside his command post on June 29th/30th 1944. Both dates are listed as date of death. I suspect he will killed late at night or early in the morning causing some confusion on actual day. It was common that at dark both sides set up their defense positions and utilized artillery during the night.

His death location has been recorded as north of Noyers or Brettevillette. Trying to track his units exact location on June 29th is difficult and I've yet to see a map showing any command post locations. Given the back and forth movement of the lines during this period (Operation Martlet-Dauntless) or the beginning of Operation Epsom. It makes sense that his command post would have been near Noyers on the 29th/30th.

I'm a novice at Normandy research and was hoping that someone might have some information to share on this project.
    Thank you.

According to the divisional history written by Otto Weidinger, Diekmann was killed on the afternoon of the 30th June in front of his command post north of Noyers.

I've not seen this map. Thank you. What do the circles with lines represent? The solid flag represents regiment command post if I understand correctly.

The dotted semi circles just represent the front line, the dotted arrow lines are Allied attacks, the solid flag is, as you say, the Regt. HQ.

It's Volume 5 of Otto Weidingers 5 volume official history of the division, the English translation was published by by JJ Fedorowicz.

Weidinger also wrote Comrades to the End: The 4th SS Panzer-grenadier Regiment "Der Fuhrer" 1938-1945 - The History of a German-Austrian Fighting Unit published by Schiffer. 41vU85pdHuL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg 51EEKES+L9L._SX330_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg
