For SDP, Frank, JDKR especially, and all others viewing this thread, apologies! Been away for a few days and in my dotage I just can't get on with posting anything using my phone.

Clarification (a little) re the F02 photos I posted in the "Tiger Tiger" thread a while ago.

Photos taken immediately post war, chaps definitely have RTR cap badges as they are from 1 RTR. I can only remember the name of one of the chaps and said surname (I think) was "Parkes". He was the young fella sat on the front right of F02 as you look at it.

Better photo of him below, 26th January 1945, with the Churchill crewing chaps of Kings Own Royal Lancs. He's on the left of this one.

    Kind regards, always,

    Jim.

Thanks! In the meantime, more pics! These are the last ones, I'm afraid, unless I come across any more in the family archives...
These are from after VE Day, when B Squadron were stationed in Süderstapel (29th May '45 - early September '45, when they moved to Süchteln and were issued with Cromwell Crocodiles).
They were taken in the Drage-Norderstapel area, where he was guarding a Control Point on the Eider - if anyone's interested, exact location, courtesy of St Google:

    Google Maps

I think his caption for the first pic says it all....
Lastly, a modern-day view of the location of the last pic, it hasn't changed at all!

I am mistaken!!! I forgot about these, from Süchteln. For some reason, I always assumed these photos were 'standard issue', but when I was scanning the first, I realised my grandfather was there, posing in front of the tank! Apparently, he was not too happy about swapping his Comet for a Crocodile...as you can see from his annotations! These would have been taken around 14th September '45, when the WD states that: 0915; Flame test of all CHURCHILL Crocs.

Hi Sheila - if you click on Inbox top right you will then see a box which says something like Start a Conversation. Click on that and you will be able to put into a box the name of the person you want to message. Then message them. Nobody else will see that conversation - I think! Good Luck!:)

If you want to contact a member of the Forum directly rather than via these public viewable pages, you need to Start a Conversation. This is quite easy. Go to their last post and click on their name underneath their avatar (aka the picture above their name). That will bring up their details and you will see an option to Start a Conversation. Click on that and follow the instructions. Sounds complex but is actually very easy.

Ah. Got it now. Only thing you could/should have done is link back to Sharon's post on page three - like I've done on this post (I've referred/linked back to your recent post #154 (that's the little number towards the lower right hand corner of each post)). It's easy to add such a 'quotation' to a post; you simply click on the word +quote (also located at the lower RH side of each post) when you are preparing a new post.

Incidentally, I know Sharon (Climpson) and have met her and her family on a few occasions. Her dad Fred was 3RTR as stated in her post on page three of this thread. Sharon doesn't visit this forum very often and has herself only recently joined the forum.

    I hope that helps.

Regarding taking out two tanks with one shot, whilst going through the 24 Lancers threads, I came across this:
R.I.P. Reg Snowling, 24th Lancers, later 23rd Hussars
Anyone have any more details on this incident (squadron, etc)? According to the article, it must have been a Firefly, which, if I'm not mistaken, only fired AP. I do recall my grandfather saying how the TC ordered AP, which makes me think the incident he was talking about had happened in a Sherman 75mm, but it seems too much a coincidence...

The 'two Panthers with one shot' was when Reg was with 23H. He did tell me where it all happened but I've forgotten - it was quite a time ago. According to Reg it was a lucky ricochet - still counts though!

Yep, you're right, looks like I'm no closer to finding the incident my grandfather was talking about..
Getting back to B Squadron, I read in one of the 3RTR books that when they started taking heavy losses through panzerfaüst ambushes in Germany, as many crew were reluctant to take lead position, it was dicided to rotate crews within troops, and, I'm not sure if I remember seeing somewhere, even rotating within squadrons as well. Does that sound right to you?
