The St. Patrick's Day parade and festivities in New Orleans has been canceled due to the current mass neuroses overreaction of the Kung Flu virus. The parade and festivities are still on schedule to roll as planned in Baton Rouge Saturday morning, which is a good thing. I want to get drunk and throw beads.
During WW1 the RN and the British Army had different standards for loo paper although both specified sheets of the same area one was square and the other oblong. Had standardisation been achieved by WW2?
WHO has just declared it's a pandemic. I'm not worried about the virus. What's worrying me is that all my users are going to try and work from home and I'm going to be spending all day explaining that no, you can't access that file cos' its on a server IN YOUR OFFICE AND YOU'RE AT HOME! and no, I don't know what the password is for your home Wifi, and no, they can't hear you in the Skype meeting cos you need to TURN THE MIC ON! and on, and on, and on...... I hate people.....why I work in IT Support I'll never know Rant over.
Before this bloody virus came along I was fairly content with my lot. I had reached the age of 96 with a reasonable chance of achieving the legendary 100 before I shuffled off this mortal coil and I still had a pretty busy calendar. No more, I'm afraid......Covid 19 has put paid to all that and I am once again reminded of the old Roman adage “If you want to hear the Gods laugh, tell them your plans ". My annual dose of sniffles, which had never before given me any cause for concern, has now achieved sufficient importance that I have been obliged to self quarantine in order to “consider others” Most of my weekly activities are now cancelled and I am stuck at home with limited visits from my two lovely daughters who studiously keep their distance from me, presumably “just in case” they infect me. The 75th Anniversary of D day in May now looks as if it is not going to happen at all, despite the vast amount of organisation that has already been made to give us oldies a chance of riding down the Mall on a float and dining en-masse with Her Majesty !!! (I kid you not !!!) So, nothing but misery for this particular veteran but, of course, so much worse for all those poor folk around the globe who have actually caught the virus and in many cases have already perished. Your further thoughts on the subject ? Ron
I spent 9 hours in hospital on Sunday and 5 hours on Monday, as I was experiencing signs of another potential stroke. Are you kidding me i thought, as I've stayed away from most of humanity recently. A cruel joke perhaps. Thank God, it was not, but a resolution is still to be found. In that long period, I shared the fears of all the wonderful staff and patients alike. A rare camararderie emerged and not one of us wore a mask. I wish them all well in the coming days, weeks and months, especially the staff. Life is a Lottery and we don't always get a winning ticket. Sod it, I'm going to have a small glass of wine. Cheers to you all.
Though the media do like to focus on the negative because it sells more papers/gets more viewers, there are always silver linings out there...... Chinese grandmother, 103, recovers from coronavirus after being treated for less than a week and considering China is a country of 1.4 billion people...… In short, China is a country of 1.4 Billion people and had: - 24 New Cases yesterday - 1,587 RECOVERIES yesterday but you won't see that headline in the news...... See - China Coronavirus: 80,790 Cases and 3,158 Deaths - Worldometer Quis Separabit
Thanks Quis Separabit I feel so much better now - might start booking my Easter holiday to - any suggestions anyone? TD
Bobby, Our equivalent is Registered Retirement Savings Plans and everything is in the shitter. Like 2008, it's better not to look at your portfolio too often and just ride out the storm.
Hey, you're too young to start drawing that out anyway. Stay the course and you'll be fine. If I had extra cash at the moment I'd be buying with both hands.
I decided to self quarantine myself by going bird watching in the local nature reserve. Not a soul or virus in sight. I think I'll be doing that more often.
