    This is great!

A lot of what Ron speaks about concerning the history of the Goldstein family can also be found in the book "Shalom Jack" written by his nephew Michael Goldstein. A great read and well worth the effort.

Just watched this series and I thought it was terrific. The scattering of women pilots are all knockouts as is typical of any movie but they play their roles well. Closed caption. Some political officers are evil while some are pragmatic. Highly recommend it.

I've just watched this old documentary which is ostensibly about Irish neutrality during WW2, although the most interesting bits for me were about Coastal Command and the US build up in Northern Ireland.

I think since this was made, it has been revealed that De Valera and Eire were a good deal more pro-Allied than was previously thought, although I'm not up on the details.

I’ve been rewatching Ken Burns’ excellent The War on PBS America. Anything “Ken Burns”, I’m there.

Iron Fury (also known as T-34). I watched this yesterday and thought it was utter tripe. There have been some good Russian war films in the past and then there is this one. It was poorly dubbed but even if it had subtitles I don't think it would of mattered. Basically a bunch of Russian PoW's in 1944 Germany are challenged to drive a T-34 in an exercise against SS Panthers on a training ground. A mistake leads to the T-34 still being armed with a handful of shells and the escape across Germany begins with Czechoslovakia being the intended destination. Considering that in 1944 Czechoslovakia was still under German control I have no idea why they wanted to go there. It is instilled with a little attempt to rewrite the bad reputation the Russians had by one of the crew saying 'we are the good guys and good guys don't plunder. We'll ask' when they trundle through a German village seeking food.
Strangely I have seen this film with an 8 out of 10 rating but I just can not get my head around how.

True but the resistance guy said 'Avion'. I had to look it up during the show and it's right on the way.

I must have misheard what he said but wasn't Avion well into the British sector? Near Arras.

The 2018 Spitfire documentary made it to Netflix in Canada and I watched that. Fantastic footage and good interviews. My only criticism is that there seemed to be a little bit of unnecessary hype, partly in the film, but also Netflix gave it the subtitle "The Plane That Saved the World". Obviously the Spitfire made an enormous contribution but it didn't win the war by itself!
