    Missing in Action in Norway. Missing, presumed died of wounds. Heavily bombed by German planes at a place called Steinkjer, Norway. The Battalion did not leave by sea until 30 April.

    does not make sense, as 2 Lincolns were in Hampshire at the time.

    Very interesting thanks . Surely the chap in India is on the wrong memorial ? I think , like brook wood , a significant proportion of those who are unaccounted for on the Runnymede memorial are lost burials in the UK rather than lost bodies

    Cause of Death: Presumed killed in action at Sea. 1 Lincolns were not at sea, but 6 Lincolns left Taranto that night. Bit of a mystery. The service records would have to be consulted.

    I agree one of them may be on the wrong memorial. They won't be the first incorrect ones. I've had a few changes myself by CWGC with evidence. They also refused to change even with evidence.

    6 Lincolns sailed in a Polish Ship called SS Batory, 10,000 tons with a capacity to carry 2,200 troops.

    Thanks for bringing these all to my attention. All of the deaths connected with the Norway Campaign are on the right memorial. I will check all of the others.

    This chap did not appear on the casualty roll so was marked down for further investigation. It appears he was from Lincoln so will be looking there.

    Good news I have just found the burial register for him at St Pancras Cemetery. Would you be able the send me a copy of the war diary with his name on please?
