That's the first time I've actually laughed out loud in days. Thanks

    Another good episode.

Kirby under friendly artillery fire, "Hey tell them birds back of the line to watch them shorts! We're on their side!"

Actor Jack Hogan is still with us at age 90. I always felt he was miscast. At six-foot-six, Pfc. Littlejohn should have been lugging around that 21 lb. BAR. .

True but it worked out great. He's associated with the BAR as much as Saunders is with his Tommy Gun. There were a couple of early episodes where Kirby was the ammo carrier for the BAR and was always admiring it. I can't remember if the BAR guy got killed or wounded. Kirby was passed passed over for the job with the appropriate drama ensuing. Littlejohn carried a carbine in some later episodes which looked like a toy in his hands.

Churchill: To Conquer or To Die, part of Martin Gilbert’s excellent series, currently showing again in the afternoons on BBC2.

Actor Arnold Ridley of Dad's Army:

Having been "rather badly knocked about" in World War I (he fought at the Battle of the Somme and was injured three times, with one serious bayonet wound leaving him with no strength in his right arm) he returned to England but could find no acting work and went instead to work for his father's boot company in Bath.

I watched Tunisian Victory on Netflix. Not an area I’m familiar with at all, but the archive footage was great and it gave me a basic understanding. Propaganda obviously but it acknowledges set backs as well.

The whole family sat down and watched Darkest Hour. All very much enjoyed it. We could do with a bit of that courage and spirit now.

Above average. I liked the period sets, vehicles clothes, etc.
The elevator indicator at Mac's headquarters went to 9 but the Dai-ichi Life Insurance building has only 5 floors.( WWII OCD much? :) )

Hirohito arrived in a Rolls when he should have been in a Mercedes. He favored Pierce Arrow limos until the war.

All in all, an entertaining movie.

A little silly in beginning but second half is hilarious.

Just watched the whole of the BBC Dunkirk series from 2004 on DVD. All based on real people, memoirs and quite a lot of archive footage mixed in with actors including Benedict Cumberbatch as Jimmy Langley. So much better than the god awful Nolan film.

That looks good but I see BBC has it blocked over here. Darn

It got a cheeky DVD release at the same time as the Nolan film was out over here. I picked it up for a quid at a boot fair shortly after, no doubt by someone who’d bought it in error! It’s well worth a watch, being about three hours long in total. A real variety of experiences from Churchill, Gort and Ramsey down to private soldiers and Essex fishermen. Hopefully it’ll be available in some format for you.

Just finished Band of Brothers for the fifth time followed by Pacific for the second time. Both excellent.

    Spoiler below:

If you are a German patrol, don't get ambushed by Hanley, Cage and Kirby blazing away with carbine, M1 and BAR. Sanders wasn't in this one or it would have been even worse.

The Germans were afflicted with the same weakness shown by American Indians. They were terrible shots.

Interesting you say that because the Indians really were terrible shots. They didn't have ammo to practice and it was even worse in muzzle loading days. To save their scarce powder they'd essentially only use enough powder to get the gun to fire. Not so good for accuracy.
