Does anyone know the exact location of Saigon Military Cemetery, my uncle was interred here, before being exhumed and reinterred at Kranji War Cemetery in 1954.

    Regards

    Liam.

Or they never looked ! The CWGC record the move of 161 graves was completed from Saigon War Cemetery to Kranji by 31 March 1954.

It was known as Saigon (British) War Cemetery . The CWGC have lots of mentions of it in their Archive and photographs !

Thanks Kyle, a friend did say they are unhelpful at times.

Thanks for the images, do you know the location of the cemetery within Saigon? Are the offline photos for public viewing?

I dont think it was actually in Saigon one of the files from 1950 has a request that the cemetery be located nearer to Saigon itself but this was not possible and the Graves were opened and their occupants flown to Kranji. I have not looked in any great detail but if these files are held by the CWGC they will have the location possibly in the photograph file you ask about ? The file reference is online but the contents are not. Only an appointment (when/if they reopen their office) will reveal the contents, unless you find a helpful soul at the CWGC office (they do exist !) :)

    Hello Liam,

You could (only if you wanted to of course) come at it from another angle too. Should you wish to have a try, give the folks as much information as you can, emphasising that any details they may be able to provide regarding the cemetery site are in relation to the time of occupation by the Japanese during the second world war, and the shared struggle to drive them out.

As difficult as things were for the country after the end of the French occupation (and beyond) there may still be some records in Vietnamese archives (an map maybe?).

Relations with the West are much better now than they once were, so it may be worth a try.

    Good luck with your quest.

    Kind regards, always,

    Jim.
