Despite the fact I´m a staunch enthusiast/owner/collector of tiny FIAT car(t)s I´m also very much interested in vehicles with insanely powerful aircraft engines. In a British forum, it is polite to start with a vehicle from the island with a very certain one It would be stylish to counter with a Messerschmitt-engine fired car, but unfortunately.... So hopefully a BMW engine should do the trick, too (don´t like the brand, but at least it was Heinkel mounted) Further additions are more than welcome regards Olli
Interesting Wiki article on the subject. Aero-engined car - Wikipedia How about the Thunderbolt from the 1930s? World speed record car with 2 RR Type R engines. Same type as used in the Schneider Trophy winning seaplanes. And don’t forget Thrust II and Thrust SSC. Now that’s insane! But plenty of road legal stuff as well.
The Gnome rotary (later to develop into the Gnome-Rhone) normally associated with WW1 fighters was originally produced pre WW1 as a motor car engine for Rolland-Pilain and Piccard-Pictet racing cars in 1913

As all Americans know, the greatest car with an airplane engine of all time was a custom job built in Philadelphia in the 1950s on the hull of a 1941 Mercury. As for the engine---well, here, have a listen to it:
I love Messerschmitts. When I was a little kid my father had a friend, an English actor named Paxton Whitehead who was part of the Beyond the Fringe group, and he had a Messerschmitt. Paxton is one of those, tall, thin Englishmen with very long legs. Well, when Paxton sat down in that tiny little car his knees were up around his ears. I thought that car was about the coolest thing I had ever seen.

"Mad Max? Never heard of her".... That´s true Power Porn, especially as I like radials ;-) But far more I like the old fashioned mechanics as visible in the JAP. That was the reason I swapped my 1.1l 60hp1985 FIRE engined Cinquecento for one with a 1956 0.9l OHV engine - with some modifications and turning the puny 39 hp lawn mower drive into a 60 hp "Trofeo" engine: loud, rattling, bitchy - but what a fun on serpentines!!! while speaking of FIAT, back to topic - the mighty "Mefistofele": If a Demon Had a Car, it Would Be a Fiat

The true mechanics prayer: "Take the magneto out of my stomach, And the butterfly valve off my neck, Extract from my liver the crankshaft, There are lots of good parts in this wreck" "Take the manifold out of my larynx, And the cylinders out of my brain, Take the piston rods out of my kidneys, And assemble the engine again."
