I was able to pick up a second hand copy for under £3-50 (including postage) so shouldn't need to wash too many dishes

Armoured Horseman is pretty good, although the story about how he got into his regiment... well.

I did have a problem of obtaining this below!

Some Shyster of a book-seller who has a few flats in Brighton, England, wanted ( 475.00 sheets!). This is not proper at all. What kind idiots does he think we are? I could name him, but i will not. At times he can be reasonable with his prices. I do have a soft spot for this Brigade. I think it may be a Cab file that can be obtained from Kew? That is when they can be bothered to re-open.

I'm sure a forum member copied it from the National Archives? I'm in the middle of resizing it to put on the board. Gary, nice-one.

    WO 204 7227 24 Guards Brigade Ops.

    Regards,
    Stu.

Stu... thanks for the tip. I'm considering to delve a bit more into the contribution of the French Expeditionary Corps, which fought some decisive actions during the 1944 Spring Offensive south of Monte Cassino. Blumenson gives some interesting references to French military histories.

Your warning about Blumenson is taken to heart. He has to be red with some caution. Tends to be biased with regard to the role of Clark and his Fifth Army.

Thusfar interesting reading! I have advanced up to the Appenines, where the pursuit north of Rome comes to an end and planning for the Gothic -line Offensive starts

    stolpi,

you have reminded me of book that I've had for a while. Official History ITALY Volume 1 The Sangro to Cassino by N. C. Phillips. New Zealand in the Second World War 39-45. It looks rather detailed. I did try to obtain copies of the histories of the different battalions a while back of which was not cheap.

I've got all day for all of the American Divisions that got slapped about in the Italian Campaign. Just imagine if Mark Clarke could look back at him self & say that he cocked-up? Not likely! He has been debated enough on this forum.

I think it was the US 36 Texas Infantry Division that a took dislike to him after the Second World War. You can also add the US 34 Infantry Division. If you can get your hands on a book by ROBERT L. WAGNER THE TEXAS ARMY A History of the 36 Division in the Italian Campaign then i would. I was really lucky how i came across it & was rather cheap.

    Regards,
    Stu.

Ah, a lucky one, or just one with better self-discipline than I have. I'm £65.90, incl. £16.35 P&P, poorer. Hopefully soon 5 books richer.

I’ve got 3 books for my meagre spend inc postage, so you’ve obviously gone for the higher end of their offerings!

Postage is high partly because I live in Finland
    My order was :
BIG GUN MONITORS Design, Construction and Operations 1914-1945 Summer Sale: £4.79, should be excellent
AIR BATTLES OVER THE BALTIC 1941 The Air War on 22 June 1941: The Battle for Stalin’s Baltic Region Summer Sale: £10.39, I have
"professional" interest in the history of the VVS, the book may not be so great but I have heard that it had lot of interesting details on
the VVS, so chances are rather high that I can learn something new from it.
MOBERG, GUNFIRE! British Artillery in World War II Summer Sale: £13.59, simply I'm interested in British Artillery and had went
through Nigel Evans' excellent site British Artillery in World War 2 but as a book lover I want more info in a book form.
PANZER GUNNER From Native Canada to the German Ostfront and Back – In Action with 25th Panzer Regiment, 7th Panzer Division
    Summer Sale: £7.99
, mostly because it had much technical info on Jagdpanzer IV and the ways it was used and I also have interested
    in the 7. PzD
MAGYAR WARRIORS VOLUME 2 The History of the Royal Hungarian Armed Forces, 1919-1945 Summer Sale: £12.79. Finnish and
Hungarian languages are distant cognate languages, not that I can understand a word of Hungarian but that is what linguists claims,
so I am somewhat interested in their history and their air force. Looks like they are somewhat stubborn people as we are.

My 3 turned up yesterday, so the same, WFH even less productive than usual! ETA- Gordon Mellor (RAF Evader who I met a few times before this was released). Calais to Colditz - Phillip Pardoe (probably the last major POW account that will emerge, written in 1947 and touched up in 1985 as a private family release). Flat pack Bombers- Ian Gardner (RNAS accounts about zeppelins, bought as it’s very cheap and I enjoyed a podcast on zeppelins a few weeks back).

Given up on ever getting a copy as it's OP and selling for insane prices (Amazon.ca has one copy @ $1391). Then miracle of miracles, one showed up on my Abebooks want list @ $49 CDN including shipping. Couldn't get it in my basket fast enough!

    Gratuitous book-buying, because I can.

One bit of likely pointless obscurity (though I do seem to be developing a small collection of 'Axis Allies' stuff), and one 50s thing that looks like it slightly pre-dates the CIOS.
I liked the cover. IMG_20200808_181213838~2_copy_696x588.jpg

Read this book years ago. Not a bad read but keep the maps close to hand. I wish I had as I found the writing style confusing. I donated my copy to the RCMI library so it's at hand for me to read again. Let us know what you think.

    Cheers,
    Dan.

Well... I have been deep in reading about the fighting in Tunisia so I thought I should really get a copy of Galloway's book - he was one of a number of Canadian officers given positions in British regiments in Tunisia in order to gain battle experience.

And then I looked at what else the shop had listed on abebooks and they had Tom Renouf's book, so I searched and he seems to have been a truly nice man so I thought I'd get his book too...

I don't have my filthy mitts on it yet, but after three weeks of holding out (been less than flush owing to Coronageddon) I succumbed:

A set of twenty unpublished poems by a 2/5th Essex man who was KIA at first Alamein. It seems to be his own copy with pencil annotations. I think it might be unique. The two previews I've seen were penned in Sierra Leone when 2/5 and 1/4th Essex were there in 1940-41. I'm very eager to see what the others cover.

    £10.50 plus £1.00 postage: couldn't say no.
