Especially as each year there are inevitably fewer and fewer veterans taking part.

Perhaps we should leave it to the ghost of the fallen to march past

Received the local Residents’ Association news sheet today, which was jolly nice of them as we’re not even members, and we are told that the Remembrance Day service at our War Memorial is still scheduled to take place on 8 November but, naturally, very much dependant on national and local guidance.

This would be my very first chance to pay my respects to two of my cousins, and a great uncle from WW1, about whom I knew nothing until “discovering”, just this year, them and their sad fates.

We are looking to hold a very small and brief ceremony at the Chindit Memorial on the Embankment in London, but it really depends on what happens now re: the Covid-19 restrictions and rules. I'm so pleased that VJ Day went through at some decent level back in August, otherwise most of the 75th Anniversary commemorations for WW2 have been a write off!

BBC article - Royal British Legion launches Poppy Appeal from veterans' homes/ Poppy Appeal: 'It's something we shouldn't forget'
I think this is a more sensible compromise given the current situation.

I've just purchased my Christmas cards (plus a donation) on the RBL website as a way replacing my usual Poppy buying from the old veteran outside Twickenham Tesco.

Some nice designs featured, other charity Christmas cards are available:

Sadly, I've just learned that the Field of Remembrance event on the 5th November at Westminster Abbey, will now not be open to any veterans or organisation representatives. It will now be just those conducting the ceremony, officials and the Royal Party.

I went to The Gloucester War Memorial earlier today. I'll go and have peak tomorrow, as I'm sure more will be laid.

Two poppy wreaths have already been laid. The Rifles and The local RN Association.

Gloucester War Memorial was very well attended earlier including the local MP. I'll post pics later. The best shots will be of two Soldiers in WW1 uniforms on white horses. After everyone left, the horses mounted the steps and made a guard of honour either side of the memorial.

As someone who has marched the odd time at the Annual Remembrance Day I watched with interest today's Covid 19 version.

Better (much) than nothing, but I found it very strange.
