    Just wondering if anyone had anymore information on sergeant Edwin James Bushell.
    Service number:751221
    Squadron 144
    He was KIA on 1st November 1940, had an RAF memorial plaque at Englefield Green and a family grave at hollybrook cemetery, Southampton.

  3. Thank you very much for this. A lot of this information I already have, however thanks a lot for finding out where he was when he died. I knew it had something to do with Germany, however I wasn't 100% sure, now I am.

    from my photo collection he is on the Runnymede Memorial so no body found.

    The op was to Berlin but included targets of Gelsenkirchen and Madgeburg, Low Country and French airfields.

    Of the 81 aircraft despatched for the night's operation, two FTR, both Hampdens from No 144 Squadron lost without trace from the force detailed to bomb Berlin.

    From 'RAF Bomber Command Losses of the Second World War. Vol 1 - W R. Chorley.....

    Friday - Saturday 1-2 November 1940.
    A medium force of close on 90 aircraft raided aerodromes in the Occupied Countries as well as visiting targets in Germany, including Berlin. A gardening operation was also undertaken.

    The aircraft took of from Hemswell.
