My name is Lawrence. I am a researcher who is currently researching the Battle of Breville-les-Monts in June 1944, and specifically the British 12th (York’s) Parachute Battalion’s involvement within this, as well as also focusing on their Normandy campaign. As I am trying to help keep the history of this period alive alongside fellow 6th Airborne Division historian Neil Barber, and tell the story of as many of those men of 12th Parachute Battalion as I can do. I am very keen to get in contact with any surviving members of the 12th Parachute Battalion who served in Normandy in 1944, and also speak with any relatives/family members of those veterans that served here with the 12th Battalion. I’m incredibly keen to try and help keep the story of these men alive and tell as many of their individual accounts / experiences as I can do, as a way of paying my respects to this remarkable generation.
have a look through the forum 12th Parachute Battalion (Yorkshire Reg) 12th Yorkshire Parachute Battalion - some tips on where to start? regards Clive
It might be worth sending a private message to the original thread starter in the other threads you posted in. Some have not been on the forum for a long time regards Clive

HI ALL Does anyone know where to get a NOMINAL ROLL of who completed the para training at Ringway 1942/43 for the 12th Batt I have Appendix A which I believe is only one of the companies? please keep safe malc
Hi Malcolm, Hope you’re keeping well. From memory Paradata/The Airborne Assault Museum might be able to assist on this one. I know I have seen a list reference Ringway / 12th Battalion, but cannot recall full details. I will see if I can find it as I am slowly plugging away with my research. All the best, Lawrence
Hi Lawrence All good in sunny Essex and I trust you are as well? I can see why you are slowly plugging away there is little data/info on the web!!!!. I do not know how but I found one sheet with the names of 13 officers top one Lt/Col Parker and names of 137 other ranks of which L/Sgt Bell KIA 6/6/44- Capt Rogers KIA 12/6/1944. Many thanks Pte Fryer KIA 12/6/44 and Pte Copeland k6/3/44 ? training .I take it this was one of the companies out of the 3 which made up the Batt.! Keep safe malc
Hi. I’m looking for info about my Grandfathers involvement on DDay. I have his medals mounted and on the plaque it has his name, rank, service no. Along with it is 39 POD, 5th Parachute Brigade, 6th Airborne Division. He was originally an engineer. Always lived in Yorkshire and volunteered for Airborne duties. It seems most likely that, geographically, he would have been 12th Parachute Battalion. Does anyone have any idea what 39POD would mean? Also, is there any way of confirming his regiment? Thanks.
