Just joined this interesting forum. I have been tracing my late father's ww2 service with the Royal signals. He served from September 1939 to December 1945. He was evacuated from France on 18/06/1940. He spent the next 4 years with the Air Formation Signals in Egypt and Sudan, ended his service in Berlin 1945.
Any information on 2 or 3 Air Formation signals during WW2 would be appreciated.

Welcome aboard, nothing here on a Lunn from either unit - not a great surprise.

There are some pointers to 2 & 3 Air Formation Signals:
Post 4 on: 17 air formation signals

This: 2 Air Formation Signals Deaths 8/12/1939

Their cap badge on Post 113 and a mention of No.3 in North Africa just after on: 67 Field Regt RA

Post 6 for being in France 1940: 67 Field Regt RA

Hello Mr Lunn. You have a name I am familiar with though I doubt there is any connection. As an Army Cadet in the 1960's our Cadet RSM was named Kenny Lunn he worked as a tool maker in the same factory as myself.
    Down to Business.
I am referring to Post #2 above. My uncle enlisted in 3rd Depot Royal Signals Huddersfield in July 1940 as Electrical Signals Class 111 training as a Linesman (He was in civilian life an electricians mate)
He was posted to 3 Air Formation Signals Egypt on 11.5 41 was transferred to 10 line section 4 AFS on 19.7..41 he was posted back to 3 AFS then 4AFS after a number of Trade Tests and in November 1943 was posted to 3GHQ Sigs until Aug 1944 when he went to Italy.
I have no locations for either 3 or 4 AFS bur 3GHQ was a huge camp at Maadi on the outskirts of Cairo.
I did this a few years ago and a lot of water has gone under the bridge since with much research on other subjects.
I suggest therefore that you do plenty of digging but if you get stuck just drop me a Personal Message via the Conversations drop down box top right below your ID.
I will happily do what I can to help but am sure others would do the same. I tend to research Royal Artillery, you could really do with contacting someone from Signals.
I have attached my notes made during my research hope this helps.

Many thanks for replying , my father was a GPO linesman based in Huddersfield, he was called up in September 1939, he was in the territorial army, which he joined in 1938 based in Leeds.
A coincidence Kenny Lunn was also based in Huddersfield.

Trying to get some information on Air formation signals which my late father was attached to from September 1939 to June 1940. His army records show he was evacuated from France on 18/6/1940.
