Actually I found the exact record in LAC files, I Corps War Diaries indicate they came under command of the First Canadian Army on the 23 July 1944 at 1200 hours Department of National Defence, Directorate of ... - Héritage And the 49th Div came under command of I Corps os the 21 July, as note in I Corps War Diaries below Department of National Defence, Directorate of ... - Héritage
Can’t beat the primary sources. I was about to say that the Wikipedia entry for 49th Div shows it as 25 July - citing Joslen, H. F. (2003) [1990]. Orders of Battle: Second World War, 1939–1945, (Uckfield, East Sussex: Naval and Military Press). I’d be interested to know what Joslen’s source was!
