  1. Hi does anyone have the war diary from August 1944 for this Battalion? That was the month my uncle Robert Hayes Smith died while fighting in Normandy

    His original burial location at map reference 103695 is shown in the yellow square at the point of the second 'v' in Cuverville:

    Hi, The normandywarguide.com site is mine, I've not been able to add the Aug 44 diary to the site yet but I do have a copy which I'll try to add to the site shortly but Lt Smiths death is mentioned in the war diary.

    It appears was killed during a fighting patrol north of the village Vimont to feel for enemy positions

    I've just added the August war diary to the site, it still needs a little work but most of the locations have also been geocoded
