18th Infantry Brigade joined 1st Infantry Division on 8th March 1944, replacing 24th Guards Brigade. It had been transferred from 1st Armoured Division in North Africa. It rejoined 1st Armoured Division on 16th August 1944, being replaced by 66th Infantry Brigade.

I searched his name on the CWG site for Anzio Beach Head Cemetery and he comes up as being in 14 btn SF.

Thanks for the map, the positions of 18 brigade on your map tie up with the narrative of the 14 btn SF war diaries.
It appears that 18 brigade were further ahead of the flyover on 27.5.44 and entered the Factory on 28.5.44 indications are that my Uncle Tom may have died somewhere between the Flyover and the Factory in Aprilia.
When I learn how to apply the war diary grid references to the map I will know more.
The advice to check with CWG for concentration reports is very interesting.

Thanks Gary . I missed the changeover. Between 10th Feb and 24th March 1944 67th Field Regt were supporting the American 36th Combat Engineers under 56 Div.. I have amended my records re 18 IB but am aware of the 66th IB whose actions are recorded north of Florence.

Neil, here are the pages from the Divisional History from the Anzio Campaign with the BATTLE CASUALTIES. Plus a surprise.:smug: What's the odds of me having it? The figures in the casualties speak volumes about this fine Division. Gary, thanks for the correction has I should of checked first. I will post a book that I bought from the museum. It will help you with memorials has to where they are. Enjoy your trip.

Some say that it is not known when this fabulous book was printed. To me its 1946.

A tricky book to scan has its slightly wider than A4 size. And the iceing on the
cake. He is to the far right of the cemetery. I did not make a note of the plot,
or row. His headstone is much cleaner than many that are on that side.

Will also have a look at the war diaries for both I Buffs, and
9 KOYLI (Yorkshire Dragoons) for this period. I must be honest,
I've not got round to reading them. Busy with earlier parts of this
    ghastly campaign.

    Regards,
    Stu.

    Frank,

If I think what I think the software is, then that will be most useful for Neil.

    Hi Frank
I remember reading that with your email address, but now that I want to answer it I can not find it, I think it has been removed.
Please send again I am very excited at the prospect of locating the grid references.
The last few days have been so productive, this site is amazing.

After a tearful time this evening over the first ever sighting of Tom’s headstone for myself and the family we are very grateful for your support at a very emotional time.

Neil, I was not sure if I should of shown his headstone? It was just pot luck that I had taken it. Perhaps I should have started a conversation with yourself stating that I had it , and then getting your permission to show it. No worries, its done now. Hope you all don't mind? A lesson learnt on my part.

Start a conversation with me before you go.. I've got a offer for you all if needed?

    Regards,
    Stu.
