Am I right in thinking the black bar on top sleeve is Riffles?

No, it is an arm of service strip. The Royal Welch Fusiliers were not a Rifle regiment It would have been a solid red bar denoting an Infantry regiment.

    Thank you for your email,

This is an automated email response to confirm that your email has been received by the MOD Access Service Team at The National Archives (TNA). A member of our team will respond in due course.

Our team is currently processing a high volume of requests and we respond to all emails in date order.

Please be advised that our current average processing time for a Freedom of Information (FOI) request is 6 months.

If you have already provided an acceptable type of proof of death to The National Archives (TNA) please disregard the below.

Providing proof of death to The National Archives (TNA):

Please note The National Archives (TNA) does not have access to any copy of proof of death you may have previously sent to the Ministry of Defence.

Are you writing to us to request access to a record of a service person who was born less than 115 years ago?

If so, please provide an acceptable type of proof of death to this email address with your request.

Providing proof of death from more than 25 years ago does not guarantee that the record will be opened either in full or in part; but it makes it more likely. If dated less than 25 years ago, proof of death in some cases allows TNA to bring forward the record opening date.

Acceptable types of proof of death:

The only acceptable types of proof of death are copies of death certificates, war dead records, and published obituaries that include both date of birth and date of death.

We are unable to accept other types of proof of death.

To order death certificates, please see: Order a birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificate

A Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) certificate can be generated for free at that organisation’s website: The Commonwealth War Graves Commission | CWGC).

    Kind regards,

Good to see you got the records eventually. Three days to open the email and download the documents seems ridiculously short. If you need help in interpreting the sheets feel free to post them here.

Many thanks, I will post up some papers as some I can't understand, although I have traced a lot of his movements via prt1 and 2 from Regimental Records of the Royal Welch Fusiliers.....a great help. Certainly found that he was originally with the 1st Bn then posted with the 2nd......gets a bit confusing after Madagascar. Is it best to start another post or just add it on to this one> Tia

Ok here's 2 sheets from Bill's record, He seems to have gone from RWF to (7spec M.C) a couple of times. I have some idea from the list of abbreviations and acronym list on the forum for some things. He's also posted to 41 Beach group.
Top half of sheet 26 shows where he embarked and disembarked after being mobilized (16-03-1940) including the dates.
He seems to have gone from L/cpl to cpl and back to fusilier a good few times.....not sure why?
I do know that a large amount of these guys were suffering from malaria after leaving Madagascar (from the Regimental records) he would have been in his early 30's by then
Any decoding will be much appreciated.
I have read a bit on beach groups and have looked on national archives for "41 Beach group" and there are a number of WO files I can look at if I book a visit, not much point if the info is sparse. I know 41 and 45 groups were the only 2 that remained. Tia
